Release Date: May 30, 2006
In partnership with World Vision More than 6,000 children in Africa, Asia, South America and Europe are sponsored monthly by Network TwentyOne associates. These life giving sponsorships provide basic necessities, earning opportunities and skills. Additionally, Network TwentyOne is actively involved with World Vision to provide aid for local natural disasters.
By noon on May 28th World Vision Indonesia relief teams began distributing relief aid to the survivors of the powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Yogyakartas area in the central part of Java Island.
The quake, the worst in the nation after the tsunami in Aceh province at the end of 2004, killed more than 5,000 people and injured thousands others. It struck early on Saturday when many people were still asleep.
The first batch of relief goods were distributed to inhabitants of Jetis village in Bantul district, the area worst affected by the tremor. It is estimated that the relief program will require $4 to $5 Million, excluding funds for houses and other property reconstruction. Between 15,000 and 25,000 houses and other properties were flattened or suffered serious damage.
If you would like to help the victims of the Indonesia earthquake, donations may be given through worldvision.org.
